Ilsenburger Grobblech GmbH reporting milestone in safety steel approvals for the German Armed Forces

- The latest approvals are rounding off the SECURE portfolio
- Additional steel grades approved for military use
Ilsenburger Grobblech GmbH, a subsidiary of Salzgitter AG, has now gained certificates for the military use of additional steel grades and has thereby successfully completed its central approval project for SECURE security steel – marking a significant milestone for the company in the field of defence applications. With the latest approvals, the safety steel grades from Ilsenburger Grobblech GmbH meet the requirements of the Bundeswehr's technical delivery conditions and are approved for military use.
As part of the approval campaign, several steel grades were significantly expanded or newly certified.
These include:
- SECURE 400® in the thickness range from 6 to 45 mm
- SECURE 450® in the thickness range from 6 to 30 mm
- SECURE 500® in the thickness range from 6 to 40 mm
- SECURE 600® in the thickness range from 6 to 22 mm
The product portfolio has now been expanded in a targeted manner and the scope of approvals strategically closed. Previously, only SECURE 450® and SECURE 500® were certified in limited thickness ranges.
Thanks to the approvals now obtained, Ilsenburger Grobblech GmbH is able to cover around 80 to 90 percent of the steel requirements of a given military vehicle. With this expanded range, the company is taking a decisive step: from selective applications to a largely comprehensive with certified security steel.
"The initially planned scope for SECURE heavy plate has now been completed. Consequently, an important goal for supplying our customers and the defence industry with TL-approved SECURE security steel has been achieved. Nevertheless, we are currently working intensively on additional grades and sheet thickness ranges," as Dr. Thomas Brecht, Head of Development at Ilsenburger Grobblech GmbH, explains.
Individual, specially designed steel grades - in particular SECURE 300® and SECURE 350® - are still undergoing the approval process.
However, these relate to highly specialized applications and complement the portfolio that is already widely applicable today.
With the approvals obtained, Ilsenburger Grobblech GmbH ranks as one of the few European manufacturers that is able to offer safety steel in this bandwidth and depth for defence applications. The results underline the company's technological expertise as well as the high quality, vertical integration and delivery reliability at the Ilsenburg site.
At the same time, the company is strengthening its position as a reliable partner for the security and defence industry in an increasingly challenging market environment. Ilsenburger Grobblech GmbH will be presenting its expanded product portfolio for the first time at Eurosatory, one of the world's most important trade fairs for defence and security, which will be taking place this year from June 15 through to 19 in Paris.
